Every August Bank Holiday weekend, the streets of West London transform into one of the world's biggest street festivals, celebrating Caribbean culture with music, food, mas, and community energy that draws millions from across the UK and beyond.

When and Where

Notting Hill Carnival 2026 runs from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August over the Bank Holiday weekend. Sitting across Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park and surrounding streets, it takes over the roads with parades, music, and party everywhere you turn.

What to Expect Each Day

Saturday kicks things off with a ticketed Steel Band Competition. A musical showcase where UK steelbands bring sweet rhythms and fierce pride.

Sunday is often called Family Day, with J'ouvert (early morning paint and colour celebrations), a children's parade, and community vibes that feel welcoming to all ages.

Monday is the Big Parade and Adults Day, a full-throttle Carnival experience with elaborate costumes, mas bands, dancers, and people on the road living and moving to soca, calypso, reggae, steelpan and more.

Culture on the Streets

Mas bands, costumed groups representing creative themes, are core to the Carnival experience, bringing colour and movement through the streets. You'll also find sound systems playing everything from reggae and dub to soca and bouyon, and food stalls serving classics like jerk chicken, curried goat, roti, doubles and fried plantains, an edible celebration of Caribbean flavours.

Tips for First Timers

This is a huge festival. Hundreds of thousands show up across the weekend, so travel to the area early and be prepared for big crowds. Many Underground stations near the Carnival route close or become exit-only during the event, so plan your journey and consider walking from nearby stations outside the busiest zones.

60th Anniversary Year

2026 is a special year, celebrating 60 years of Notting Hill Carnival with heritage events and community storytelling that honour the real history of how this Caribbean celebration grew from grassroots beginnings into a global cultural landmark.
