Antigua Carnival 2026: Dates, Fetes, and What to Expect on the Road

Antigua Carnival 2026 runs from July 25 through August 4, under the theme "Feel the Rhythm," turning St John's into an island-wide party for close to two weeks.

    The Schedule

Carnival weekend opens July 24 with Face Off, a high-energy warm-up clash of music and performances at Carnival City. July 25 brings the official opening of Carnival City alongside T-Shirt Mas, the first big road vibes of the season.

July 26 is for the young ones, with the Junior Parade and the Prince and Princess competition showcasing youth talent. Calypso competitors battle it out on July 31, one of the most anticipated lyrical nights of the festival. On August 1, steelbands take over for a night dedicated entirely to pan.

The grand finale lands August 4, with mas bands, costumes, and the road running from morning into night, closing out the festival.

    What Makes Antigua's Carnival Different

Antigua's Carnival traces back to the end of slavery in the British West Indies and has grown into one of the region's biggest summer festivals, drawing visitors from across the Caribbean and its diaspora in the UK, US, and Canada. Steelpan, calypso, and soca all get dedicated competition nights rather than being folded into a single generic show, which gives traditional music forms real space alongside the road parade.

The festival also runs J'ouvert, Carnival Monday, and Carnival Tuesday's Parade of the Bands in the same run-up to Last Lap, the closing stretch that caps off the festival.

    Planning Your Trip

With the festival spanning July 25 to August 4, most visitors plan around the two big weekends rather than the full stretch. Costume sections for the major bands tend to sell out ahead of the parade dates, so booking early is worth it if you want to play mas rather than just watch from the side.

Have you played mas in Antigua before, or is this the year you finally go?
